Traditional daytime windows

From local sunrise to sunset

  • Rahu Kaal

    to

    Daylight part 6 of 8
  • Yamaganda

    to

    Daylight part 1 of 8
  • Gulika

    to

    Daylight part 3 of 8

These are traditional calendar divisions, not predictions. Interpretations vary, especially for Gulika. They do not mark the remaining hours as safe or guarantee an outcome.

Daylight-window method

The daylight between sunrise and sunset is divided into eight equal parts. The weekday selects each window, so its length changes with the city and season.

These windows belong to the selected civil date and cover daylight only. Status labels describe the displayed calculation instant; no night window or outcome is inferred.

Understand these terms
Tithi
Tithi divides the Moon–Sun angular separation into 30 parts of 12°. It is not a fixed 24-hour day.
Nakshatra
Nakshatra divides sidereal longitude into 27 equal parts of 13°20′. Each has four padas.
Yoga
Yoga here divides the sum of the Sun and Moon's sidereal longitudes into 27 parts. It is a calendar term, not an exercise or a health claim.
Karana
Karana is a half-tithi: each 6° of Moon–Sun separation. Its name follows the declared calendar sequence.
Moon rashi
Moon rashi is the Moon's 30° sidereal sign at the displayed instant. This current position is different from a birth Moon rashi.

These calculations name traditional calendar categories. They do not choose an auspicious time or predict a personal event.

Five parts of the calendar

Panchang combines the weekday, tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana. Here the values are evaluated at sunrise in the city you choose. A value can change during the day; the next boundary time is shown alongside it.

Use the place where you are

A daily calendar depends on local sunrise. Your current city can be different from your birthplace. These city-centre calculations use an ideal horizon and standard atmospheric refraction. Hills, buildings, elevation and weather can affect a practical observation.

Traditional windows, with their limits

Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika divide the actual sunrise-to-sunset day into eight equal parts using weekday rules. Interpretations vary by tradition; these windows do not guarantee a safe or unsafe outcome. Festival observance, muhurta and choghadiya require separate rules and are not inferred here.
